Windows 8 packages

Windows 8 is set to go on sale in October, and now the packaging for two of its versions has hit the Web.

Windows 8 will come in a white box while Windows 8 Pro comes in a similar package but with a dominant black color.

Among the most notable differences from past Windows packages is Microsoft has left off its traditional, waving Windows logo and gone instead with its Windows 8-style UI logo, which you can see on the side of the box in the image above. That isn't a huge surprise, however, because Windows 8 represents a huge change for the Windows family of operating systems.

As for the software, Windows 8 is set to launch Oct. 26 in all its various forms, including Windows RT, which is a version of the operating system that will run on tablets, including the Microsoft Surface.

The Verge, which first reported the image of the packaging, said it understands that the new operating system's packaging will be similar to that of the packaging for Windows 7.
